Wix, Squarespace and Ghost
Where each builder keeps its custom code, and the plan it needs.
First, in CommentKit, open Project → Setup, copy your project key and add your site’s address (your own domain, and the builder’s address if you review there). Then follow the steps for your builder.
<script src="https://commentkit.dev/cdn/v1/loader.js" data-project="pk_live_your_key" defer></script>Wix
Needs a Premium plan and a connected domain. Custom code does not run on a free wixsite.com address.
- In your site’s dashboard, go to Settings and click Custom Code under Development & integrations.
- Click + Add Custom Code and paste the tag.
- Under Add Code to Pages choose All pages and Load code once. Wix changes pages without reloading, and CommentKit follows those changes by itself.
- Under Place Code in choose Body - end, then click Apply.
- Open your live site and press Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + K.
Squarespace
Needs the Core, Plus or Advanced plan, or one of the older plans that include it. The Basic plan has no code injection.
- Open the Code Injection panel: in most sites, Website → Pages → Custom code → Code injection; in some older dashboards, Settings → Advanced → Code injection.
- Paste the tag into Footer (it goes before
</body>on every page). - Click Save.
- Open your site and press Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + K.
For one page only, use that page’s gear icon → Advanced → Page Header Code Injection. Squarespace runs no custom code on checkout pages.
Ghost
- In Ghost Admin, open Settings and choose Code injection in the Advanced section.
- Paste the tag into Site footer.
- Click Save. Ghost caches pages, so it can take a few minutes to show.
- Open your site and press Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + K.
For one post or page only, use Code injection in that post’s settings in the editor.
Show it to clients
Open Project → Client links, create a link (for example “Anna – homepage review”) and send it by email, Slack or WhatsApp. It opens your site with the feedback button ready. Your client confirms their email once; no account or password.
Teammates open the site and press Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + K, or follow any CommentKit email. After they sign in once, the widget shows for them on that device.
Keep it off the live site
You do not need to do anything for regular visitors. On every address except localhost, the widget stays hidden until someone opens a client link, follows a CommentKit email, presses Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + K or is already signed in. Visitors only download a tiny loader and see nothing. Do not add data-hide-on-production="false" on a live site: it shows the button to everyone.
Troubleshooting
- Wix: the code field is missing or the code does not run. Check the site has a Premium plan and a connected domain, and that you opened that domain.
- Squarespace: you cannot find Code Injection. Search for “code injection” in the dashboard, and check your plan.
- Ghost: wait a few minutes for the cache, then reload.
- Still nothing? Open the browser console: CommentKit writes one message starting with
[CommentKit]that says what went wrong (for example a website address missing from Project → Setup, or a Content Security Policy; see the CSP guide). The troubleshooting page covers the rest.
