Webflow
Footer code in Site settings, one page only, and a staging-only option.
Add CommentKit
- In CommentKit, open Project → Setup, copy your project key and add every address people will review on: the Webflow staging address (
https://your-site.webflow.io) and your own domain. Use the exact address: a wildcard such as*.webflow.iois refused, because anyone can host a site there. - In Webflow, open Site settings and go to Custom code. Custom code needs a paid Webflow plan; on the free Starter plan the fields are locked.
- Paste the tag into Footer code (it is placed before
</body>on every page) and click Save changes. - Publish the site. Custom code only runs on the published site, not inside the Designer.
- Open the published site and press Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + K.
<script src="https://commentkit.dev/cdn/v1/loader.js" data-project="pk_live_your_key" defer></script>One page only
To collect feedback on a single page, open that page’s Page settings (the gear next to it in the Pages panel), paste the tag into Custom code → Before </body> tag, save and publish. Leave the site-wide footer empty so the tag is not added twice.
Show it to clients
Open Project → Client links, create a link (for example “Anna – homepage review”) and send it by email, Slack or WhatsApp. It opens your Webflow site with the feedback button ready. Your client confirms their email once; no account or password.
Teammates open the site and press Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + K, or follow any CommentKit email. After they sign in once, the widget shows for them on that device.
Keep it off the live site
You do not need to do anything for regular visitors. On every address except localhost, the widget stays hidden until someone opens a client link, follows a CommentKit email, presses Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + K or is already signed in. Visitors only download a tiny loader and see nothing. Do not add data-hide-on-production="false" on a live site: it shows the button to everyone.
Webflow publishes to the .webflow.io staging address and your own domain at once, with the same code. To load CommentKit on the staging address only, use this instead of the tag:
<script>
if (location.hostname.endsWith(".webflow.io")) {
var s = document.createElement("script");
s.src = "https://commentkit.dev/cdn/v1/loader.js";
s.setAttribute("data-project", "pk_live_your_key");
document.head.appendChild(s);
}
</script>You can also publish to the staging address only while a review is running, and publish to your domain once it is done.
Troubleshooting
- Nothing appears: publish again (saving custom code does not publish it), and check the address you opened is in Project → Setup.
- The button is missing in the Designer or the preview: that is expected. Check on the published site.
- Still nothing? Open the browser console: CommentKit writes one message starting with
[CommentKit]that says what went wrong (for example a website address missing from Project → Setup, or a Content Security Policy; see the CSP guide). The troubleshooting page covers the rest.
